Solomon Seeks 60-Day Delay in Newmark Suit as Lawyers Say He Went Dark

Summary
A lawyer for Jared Solomon asked a judge for a 60-day extension in Solomon’s employment case against Newmark, saying he has been unable to reach the former executive at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center.
Newmark opposed the request, arguing Solomon has been communicating with counsel in his criminal case and has simply chosen not to do so in the civil suit.
The employment dispute stems from Solomon’s 2024 hiring on a $350,000 annualized draw, his paid leave after a December 2024 indictment, and his claims of wrongful termination, canceled benefits and unpaid commissions.
Newmark counters that Solomon concealed the fraud allegations, that the draw was an advance rather than guaranteed pay, and that he owed the brokerage $250,000 when it cut ties.
The civil fight now runs alongside Solomon’s criminal case, in which he was convicted in April of stealing more than $9.5 million from Vornado over 15 years and is set to be sentenced on Nov. 5.
