Q: With rain threatening to upend pitching strategies, could a weather delay secretly be the Rays' ultimate weapon to force Game 5?

Yes — if Game 4 is delayed or postponed, the weather could materially help Tampa Bay more than Cleveland. The clearest reason is Drew Rasmussen. If the game is pushed to Saturday, the Rays could replace planned starter Nick Martinez with Rasmussen on normal rest. That is a major upgrade in a series defined by one-run margins and limited offense. Rasmussen has been one of Tampa Bay’s best arms all year, carried dominant form into October, and would give the Rays a better chance to survive and force a Game 5. A delay could also reduce Cleveland’s edge from its bullpen-game design. The Guardians are set to open with Shawn Armstrong and then mix in Cantillo, Bibee, Cecconi or others. That approach can be effective, but weather interruptions are often tougher on bullpen games because they complicate sequencing, warmups and planned matchup chains. If the game stops early, Cleveland may have to burn multiple arms without getting the full benefit of its script. That said, the weather is not automatically a Rays advantage. If there is only a short in-game delay after Martinez starts, Tampa Bay could lose length from a veteran who has already been lined up for this spot and who dominated Cleveland in the regular season with 13 scoreless innings across two starts. Cleveland also has enough relief depth to adapt better than many teams. So the hidden weapon is real, but mainly in one scenario: a full postponement that lets Tampa Bay hand the ball to Rasmussen.
