Angel Reese Says Chicago Traded Her, Letting Her Pick Atlanta as Dream Reach 2026 Finals

Friday’s WNBA Finals media session put Reese’s Chicago exit back in focus after she said the Sky were already trading her and she then worked with the team to land in Atlanta.
Chicago had traded up from No. 8 to No. 7 to draft Reese in 2024, then flipped her two seasons later for 2027 and 2028 first-round picks after public roster criticism and a half-game suspension.
Reese denied forcing her way out but acknowledged she wanted Atlanta, reinforcing earlier reports that she did not formally request a trade even as she made her dissatisfaction visible.
Atlanta offered a far stronger setup: the Dream had gone 30-14 before Reese arrived and are now in the Finals, while Chicago missed the playoffs in both of her seasons after five straight appearances from 2019 to 2023.
