Intel Puts All Nova Lake CPUs Under Core Ultra 4000 Naming

Q: Can Intel's rumored massive BFC cache technology truly dethrone AMD's 3D V-Cache in the ultimate gaming showdown?

Not yet. Intel’s rumored BFC, widely linked to bLLC or “big last-level cache,” could narrow AMD’s gaming lead, but there is not enough evidence to say it will dethrone 3D V-Cache. The leaks are striking. Nova Lake BFC models are rumored to carry up to 144MB of extra cache on a single tile, and dual-tile variants could reportedly reach 288MB. That would put Intel in the same strategic territory AMD created with X3D: using a much larger cache pool to improve frame rates and 1% lows in cache-sensitive games. If those figures are real, Intel finally has a direct answer to AMD’s strongest gaming advantage. But cache size alone does not decide gaming leadership. AMD’s 3D V-Cache has a proven record in real products and benchmarks, while Intel’s BFC remains unannounced. The key unknowns are latency, cache layout, scheduler behavior across P-cores and E-cores, clocks under load, and power draw. Those matter as much as raw megabytes. Some Nova Lake leaks also point to very high peak power, including nearly 300W on a top 28-core BFC chip, which could complicate thermals and consistency. There is also a market issue. Current reporting suggests BFC may be limited to a few higher-end desktop SKUs, while AMD has already established X3D as a recognizable gaming brand across multiple products. So the best reading today is that Intel may finally have a credible challenger to 3D V-Cache, but AMD still holds the crown until independent gaming tests prove otherwise.

Jaykihn said Intel will use four-digit model numbers across the entire Nova Lake lineup, extending Core Ultra 4000 branding to mainstream mobile chips as well as desktop and HX parts.
That reverses his earlier claim that H-series and suffix-less laptop processors would stay in the three-digit Core Ultra 400 range while only Nova Lake-S and Nova Lake-HX moved to 4000.
Leaked desktop names such as Core Ultra 9 4970K, Core Ultra 9 4950K and Core Ultra 7 4870K had already pointed to the four-digit scheme, but equivalent mobile model names have not yet surfaced.
Intel has not officially announced Nova Lake model names, making the report the latest sign of another SKU reset after recent shifts from 14th Gen Core to Core Ultra 200, 300 and now 4000.
