Summary
Eric Pan said he will step down as chief executive of the Investment Company Institute after six years leading the asset-management trade group, remaining in the job until June 2027 while the board searches for a successor.
Pan said he never intended the post to be his final role and called six years a long tenure, while board chair Andrew Schlossberg said his leadership strengthened ICI’s policy voice.
The exit follows a turbulent stretch at ICI: The Washington Sun reported allegations this year of a toxic workplace and earlier scrutiny over a 2023 gender-discrimination complaint, both denied by Pan’s chief of staff.
ICI, whose members include BlackRock, Vanguard, Fidelity and Morgan Stanley, has also seen elevated turnover under Pan, with at least five other executives departing since June 2024.
Pan, who succeeded longtime CEO Paul Schott Stevens in 2020, earned more than $2.8 million between October 2024 and September 2025, according to ICI’s latest tax filing.
