Summary
Jaden J. Read, 24, of Clearwater, Kansas, was charged Saturday with threatening President Donald Trump and arrested two days before Trump’s scheduled Monday appearance in Wichita.
Oct. 15 Crime Stoppers tips led investigators to Facebook comments under local news reports in which Read allegedly said he would shoot Trump, had ammunition, and had mapped rooftops near the speech site.
Federal prosecutors said Read remains in custody pending a detention hearing after his arrest in Clearwater.
U.S. Attorney Ryan A. Kriegshauser said political violence threats will not be tolerated, while noting protected speech has constitutional limits.
