Summary
Four months after Kohen Wiley was killed in Senatobia, Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch said Sgt. Hunter Foster’s use of force was justified and no criminal charges will be filed.
Police said officers had responded to a diaper-shoplifting call on June 14 and fired after the driver allegedly steered toward them, nearly striking one officer.
Ben Crump, representing the family, cited an independent autopsy saying Kohen was shot from the side of the car, contradicting officers’ account that the vehicle was coming at them.
Authorities still have not released incident footage, and neither Kohen’s mother Vellesiya Wiley nor Latoya Ferrell—who was wounded in the shooting—has been charged with shoplifting.
The ruling lands amid wider scrutiny of Senatobia police, which fired a chief in September over reported racial slurs after earlier controversy involving a 10-year-old Black boy’s arrest.
