Summary
Madison Square Garden's 20,000-seat giveaway for the Knicks' championship ceremony carried the wrong message, with shirts reading "2026-27 Champions Night" instead of honoring the 2025-26 title.
The error drew immediate online mockery after New York itself previewed the shirts on social media ahead of Tuesday's ring and banner ceremony.
The blunder landed on a milestone night: the Knicks were celebrating their first NBA championship in 53 years and preparing to hang a third title banner alongside 1970 and 1973.
That celebration comes with pressure, as New York opens its title defense in an Eastern Conference that the report says strengthened over the summer, including LeBron James joining Philadelphia.
