Summary
London’s Metropolitan Police has opened an early-stage investigation into an allegation that Jeffrey Donaldson raped a woman inside the Houses of Parliament in 2016.
The case was referred by the Police Service of Northern Ireland after officers interviewed the woman; the Met said the alleged victim is being supported by specialist officers and no arrest has been made.
Donaldson, 63, was sentenced last week to 15 years in prison for child sex offences against two victims between 1985 and 2008, including one count of rape, and is seeking to appeal those convictions.
The new rape claim goes beyond reports in July that the same woman alleged Donaldson sexually assaulted her in DUP offices at Parliament, adding to earlier scrutiny of his behavior in London.
