Summary
Garmin users say the new hands-free “OK Garmin” feature is slashing watch battery life by roughly 35% to 50%, with some Fenix 8 owners reporting only seven days of use instead of 14.
The drain appears tied to always-on wake-word listening introduced in Garmin’s recent software update, which added voice commands alongside all-day fall detection and other features.
Disabling hands-free activation generally restores normal battery life, but that leaves users turning off one of Garmin’s flagship new smartwatch features.
The issue lands as Garmin pushes further into smart features to match Apple and Wear OS rivals, even as its core appeal has long been strong fitness tracking and battery endurance.
