Source Says JD Vance Met Several Bengals Players as 'Snub' Video Fueled 1-Sided Claims

Q: What happens when a viral social media clip tells a completely different story than the people who were actually in the room?

A viral clip can create a false narrative when it isolates a few seconds from a longer, more ordinary interaction. That appears to be what happened with footage of Vice President JD Vance at the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice facility. The short video showed one player, Drew Sample, stopping to shake Vance’s hand while other players kept moving, prompting online claims that he was being ignored. But people familiar with the visit, along with additional footage and audio cited in later reports, said the full scene was less dramatic: Bengals coach Zac Taylor greeted Vance, other players and staff spoke with him, and Vance spent time on the field with his son and toured the locker room. Joe Burrow’s own comments also undercut the idea of a coordinated snub. Burrow said he did not speak with Vance because the vice president “came with everybody and left with swiftness and efficiency before the end of practice,” suggesting the timing was brief rather than hostile. Reports also said there was no planned media event, making casual, partial interactions more likely. What this shows is how social media often rewards the most provocative interpretation of limited footage. A short, silent clip can flatten context, especially when viewers project intent onto people simply walking to or from practice. In cases like this, fuller video, audio, on-the-record comments and multiple sources are essential before treating a viral moment as established fact.

A source familiar with the visit said JD Vance and his son were warmly received at a recent Cincinnati Bengals practice, disputing social-media claims that players ignored the vice president.
Video obtained by OutKick reportedly showed Vance shaking hands with head coach Zac Taylor, chatting with players and staff, and later playing catch on the field with his family.
Drew Sample was seen greeting Vance in the widely shared clip, and the source said defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence also approached him for a conversation during the visit.
Joe Burrow said he did not speak with Vance because the vice president arrived with others and left quickly before practice ended.
The visit came while Vance—an Ohio native and longtime Bengals fan—was in Cincinnati for an FBI field office speech and a campaign rally.
