Volkanovski Defends UFC Featherweight Title Against 10-0 Evloev at UFC 333

Q: Did Volkanovski cement his GOAT status by halting Evloev's undefeated streak, or did a new era begin at UFC 333?

If Volkanovski beat Evloev, it strengthens an already elite featherweight legacy more than it “creates” it. He entered UFC 333 tied with Jose Aldo for the most UFC featherweight title-fight wins at eight, and a successful defense over an unbeaten 20-0 challenger with a 10-0 UFC record would be one of the best résumé wins of his second reign. Given Evloev’s wrestling pedigree, pace and consistency, stopping him would be strong evidence that Volkanovski remains the division’s standard at age 38. That said, “GOAT status” is rarely settled by one night alone. Volkanovski already had a serious claim because of multiple title reigns, sustained championship success and wins across eras. A victory over Evloev would likely move many observers from debate to near-consensus, especially because Evloev was framed as one of the toughest stylistic tests available at featherweight. If, instead, Evloev dethroned Volkanovski, then UFC 333 would clearly mark the start of a new era. Evloev came in undefeated, on a 20-fight winning streak, with the longest active featherweight streak in the UFC and a style built to impose control over five rounds. Taking the belt from a champion of Volkanovski’s stature would not be a routine upset; it would be a generational changing of the guard. So the answer depends entirely on the main event result: a Volkanovski win would cement his place at or near the top of the featherweight GOAT conversation, while an Evloev win would signal a genuine division reset.

Q: Who walked away as the bantamweight king after the grueling, high-stakes trilogy battle between Petr Yan and Merab Dvalishvili?

Petr Yan walked away as the bantamweight champion. The available event coverage identifies Yan as the titleholder entering UFC 333 after reclaiming the 135-pound belt from Merab Dvalishvili in their rematch at UFC 323. Multiple reports in the provided material describe the UFC 333 co-main event as Yan defending that championship against Dvalishvili in the trilogy bout. That means the bantamweight “king” after the rivalry’s second fight was Yan, and UFC 333 was framed as Dvalishvili’s chance to take the belt back. The supplied results listings for UFC 333 do not include the final outcome of the trilogy itself, but the confirmed champion going into that high-stakes third meeting was Petr Yan.

Q: After a stunning 74-second knockout, will Aaron Pico's bold demand for a UFC featherweight title shot actually be granted?

Probably not immediately, despite the 74-second statement win. Pico did exactly what a rising contender needed to do at UFC 333: he mixed in wrestling, dropped Losene Keita with a right hand, and finished him in 1:14. He then made a loud case for a featherweight title shot, saying he wanted the belt next and, if not, a rematch with Lerone Murphy. The performance clearly boosts his stock and reinforces that he is becoming a serious factor at 145 pounds. But the bigger picture still works against an instant title shot. Pico entered the night as the No. 13-ranked featherweight, and he is only 2-1 in the UFC after losing his debut to Murphy, then beating Patricio Pitbull by decision and Keita by TKO. That is a strong rebound, but not usually enough to jump past more established contenders. The division also has names ahead of him. Movsar Evloev was the challenger in the UFC 333 main event, while fighters such as Aljamain Sterling, Jean Silva, Arnold Allen and Murphy remain part of the immediate contender mix. Volkanovski himself recently pointed to Silva and Sterling as the standouts behind Evloev, which is a useful signal of where the queue likely stands. Pico’s best realistic path is that the UFC rewards him with a top-five opponent or the Murphy rematch. If he wins that, a title shot becomes much more plausible. His knockout absolutely put him into the conversation, but it likely did not move him to the front of the line.
