Summary
Connor Hellebuyck made his first public comments as a Devil after Friday’s blockbuster trade from Winnipeg, saying he is eager to play again after sitting out the season so far.
The 3-time Vezina Trophy winner had requested a trade over the summer and said the long wait at home was wearing on him before the move to New Jersey was completed.
New Jersey is 7-4-0 after beating Los Angeles on Saturday, and Hellebuyck joins a team that expects him to fill a major role on and off the ice.
Hellebuyck also struck a diplomatic tone on leaving hockey-mad Winnipeg, saying he appreciated both the intensity of the Canadian market and the different environment in New Jersey.
The switch sets up an early test of that transition when the Devils visit Winnipeg on Nov. 10.
