Q: Why did Ryan Leaf refuse to take a hard stance on a playoff format that could completely rewrite college football history?

Ryan Leaf declined to take a hard stance because, by his own telling, the format change does not alter his basic relationship with the sport: he plans to watch no matter what. On Craig Carton’s show, Leaf’s answer was essentially that he is “a fan of college football period,” so he did not frame the 12-team versus 24-team debate as something requiring a strong endorsement or condemnation. That response also fits the uncertainty around the proposal itself. While a 24-team model has gained major momentum and is being seriously negotiated with ESPN, the broader reporting makes clear that the economics, scheduling and structure are still being worked through. Key issues include whether added playoff revenue would offset the loss of lucrative conference championship games, how the calendar would change, and whether expansion would weaken the regular season. Leaf’s reluctance to go further likely reflects his role as an analyst rather than an activist in the debate. He is closely tied to the sport as a broadcaster and former star player, but in this case he did not present himself as campaigning for one side. Instead, he treated it as a viewing product he will continue to follow regardless of size. So the reason he refused a hard stance was straightforward: he did not see the expansion question as something that changed his loyalty to the game, and he chose not to overstate a position while the details and consequences of a 24-team playoff remain unsettled.

Carmen Electra opened Screencaps' Halloween week with a vampire-themed post set at a gas station, becoming the column's featured launch for the seasonal run.
The piece framed the appearance as proof Electra still knows how to drive attention, highlighting her recent promotional work and her return to Playboy 30 years after her first appearance.
Screencaps used the Halloween kickoff as the centerpiece of a broader sports-and-pop-culture column that also touched on college football playoff expansion, ESPN personality Pat McAfee and reader mail.
