Microsoft Says Windows 11 Runs 20% Faster After RAM Overhaul

Summary
Up to 20% faster performance is coming to Windows 11, Microsoft said, after memory-management changes cut background RAM use and smooth operation on PCs with 8GB of memory or older hard drives.
Up to 2GB of active data can now stay in RAM instead of being paged to SSDs or HDDs when memory is tight, reducing lag during startup, search, File Explorer use and app switching.
More than 200MB of RAM is also saved on systems with 8GB or less because Widgets now uses memory only when opened, rather than running continuously in the background.
Microsoft said the gains should be most noticeable on HDD-based machines, while gaming frame rates will not increase and SSD users may see a smaller improvement.
The memory optimizations are not limited to Windows 11 26H2 and will roll out to supported versions through standard Windows Update.
