Q: Can backup Tanner McKee exploit the Cowboys' league-worst run defense to save the Eagles' season on Monday night?

Yes, but only if Philadelphia makes the run game the centerpiece and keeps Tanner McKee in a controlled role. The opening is real. Dallas has been one of the NFL’s worst run defenses, allowing roughly 168 rushing yards per game, and that is the clearest path for the Eagles with Jalen Hurts out and DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks unavailable. If Saquon Barkley plays as expected after progressing to a full practice, or if Dameon Pierce can provide steady early-down production, Philadelphia should be able to attack Dallas on the ground and use that to protect McKee. McKee does not need to “exploit” the run defense by himself. He needs to benefit from it. His job is to stay on schedule, avoid sacks and turnovers, and use short, efficient throws to Dallas Goedert, who is cleared to play and could be his most reliable target. McKee has shown competence in limited NFL action, but the Eagles’ receiving injuries and last week’s 222-yard output against Carolina show the offense is not built for him to carry it through volume. The bigger question is whether the Eagles can actually sustain the run. Their rushing identity has been disrupted all season by injuries, and they have only four rushing touchdowns. If Barkley is limited or the line cannot control early downs, McKee may again be forced into obvious passing situations, which favors Dallas. So the answer is yes, but the formula is narrow: win on the ground, lean on Goedert, and ask McKee to manage rather than rescue the season.
