Summary
Prince William County Circuit Court granted bond Monday to Miguel Alonso Maldonado Soriano, 27, who is accused of using a sledgehammer to decapitate a Marine figure on an Iwo Jima monument near Quantico.
Oct. 21 police said officers found him striking the 9-foot limestone World War II statue around 10:13 p.m., with one figure’s head completely removed and other flag-raising figures also damaged.
Hundreds of thousands of dollars in repairs are expected, and Soriano faces felony destruction of property, trespass with intent to damage property, and felony injury to a monument.
Federal sources told Fox News Soriano entered the U.S. illegally in 1999, received DACA in 2014, had it extended in 2024, and saw that status expire in August 2026 after it was not renewed.
