$1.2 billion in QNX royalty backlog marks BlackBerry’s latest milestone, up more than $250 million over two quarters as it expands beyond cars into AI-powered robotics.
John Giamatteo said the growth is being driven by automakers’ shift to advanced computing, broader software offerings and rising demand for physical AI systems that must operate safely in the real world.
QNX is already embedded in more than 275 million vehicles, and BlackBerry is now pitching the same safety-focused software base for automated mobile robots, autonomous forklifts and other industrial machines.
Nvidia has standardized on QNX for its Halos Safety Stack, Giamatteo said, extending a partnership that began in automotive and opening a wider pipeline in robotics and adjacent markets.
BlackBerry shares have surged 142% in 2026 as investors back the turnaround, though the company’s roughly $5.4 billion market value remains far below its nearly $85 billion 2008 peak.
