Summary
$47 billion — up about $3 billion from earlier estimates — is the latest U.S. Central Command tally for the Iran war, underscoring how the conflict has expanded even as Trump says it ends “whenever I want it to.”
$29 billion of that total went to replacing munitions, while the Pentagon also faces reported ammunition shortfalls despite Trump’s Sept. 3 claim that U.S. supplies were “virtually unlimited.”
Mark Zandi estimated on Oct. 12 that the war has already cost American families about $2,000 each, including $1,100 from higher energy costs, $540 from higher interest rates and $360 from increased military spending.
Trump, speaking in Lubbock, said any end must include a binding assurance that Iran will never have a nuclear weapon, and added he will soon decide whether to “make a deal” or “finish it off.”
The mounting bill and inflation pressure come as Trump’s approval rating sits at 32% ahead of the Nov. 3 midterms, with the conflict still showing no sign of winding down.
