Google Gemini Adds 7 File Types for In-Chat Editing, Expanding Docs and PDF Workflows

Summary
Starting today, Gemini users can generate, preview and edit seven file types directly inside chats, including PDFs, Google Docs, Sheets, slide decks, Markdown, TXT and code.
The update lets users modify files without leaving Gemini, with full-screen editing and text highlighting that can trigger prompts such as turning a table into a graph.
PDF preview and editing work on web and mobile, while the other formats are currently limited to Gemini’s web version.
Google had already added file generation and downloads earlier this year; the new release extends that workflow into direct in-app editing as AI chat rivals such as Anthropic’s Claude push similar document tools.
