Google Unveils Googlebook Detachables as Next Form Factor After $899 Debut Lineup

Summary
Google told developers at Android Dev Summit 2026 that detachable Googlebooks are the next device category after clamshells and convertibles.
The move extends a launch lineup dominated by clamshells, with only one convertible so far — Acer’s Googlebook 14 priced at $899.
Current software limits show why a pure detachable is not ready yet: fullscreen apps work in portrait tablet mode, but the homescreen, Overview and app tray remain landscape-only.
Lenovo is expected to ship the first detachable, based on a July leak describing a tablet with a removable keyboard, kickstand and Glowbar beside the camera.
The expansion also raises a broader platform question for premium tablets, as Googlebook OS pushes toward a more desktop-like experience alongside Android.
