Summary
DeForest Buckner returned to San Francisco in a bye-week trade, giving the 6-1 49ers a major defensive reinforcement before Week 9.
The move comes as multiple starters used the week off to recover, with San Francisco also hoping to get Nick Bosa back soon after a stretch of injury concerns.
Power-rankings outlets still disagreed on whether the 49ers belong at No. 1, but all placed them in the top five after the break.
A home game against the Raiders is the team's next chance to turn improved health and its retooled front into a stronger Super Bowl case.
