Abubakarr Barrie Accused of Stabbing 15-Year-Old in Baltimore After 2023 U.S. Release

Q: How did a seemingly routine rideshare turn into a terrifying fight for survival for a 15-year-old girl?

It turned into a fight for survival when the girl accepted what appeared to be a routine “hack” ride, but police say the driver, 23-year-old Abubakarr Barrie, took her in the wrong direction, restrained her, and brought her to a basement room he was renting in northwest Baltimore. According to charging documents and police accounts, the 15-year-old told Barrie she wanted to go to a carryout on Belair Road after he picked her up near Druid Hill Park or McCulloh Street. Instead of driving there, investigators say he headed the opposite way. When she objected, she told police he became violent, put her in a headlock while she was still buckled in, then forced her out of the car and into the basement entrance of a home on Garrison Boulevard. Inside, police say Barrie told her to put down her phone and not scream, then stabbed her multiple times and began removing her clothes. The girl fought back, scratching and clawing at him and striking him with a fire extinguisher, according to investigators. That gave her a chance to escape barefoot and unclothed, covered in blood, and run several blocks to Belle Avenue, where a resident let her call 911 and her mother. She suffered at least five stab wounds, including one that caused a collapsed lung, but is expected to survive. Detectives say surveillance video, her identification of Barrie and his car, Cash App information, and the location of her phone helped lead to his arrest.

ICE lodged a detainer when Baltimore police arrested him and had already filed another after his earlier 2026 New York arrest on a forged-instrument charge, but New York City officials released him in July.
DHS is using the case to attack sanctuary policies, arguing the alleged assault followed failures to transfer Barrie to ICE after his prior arrest.
