Santa Monica Studio Delays God of War Laufey to May 20, 2027

Q: With the game delayed to May 2027, what happens to the scheduled release of the expensive game-less Collector Box?

There is no confirmed change yet to the Collector Box release date. Sony previously announced the game-less God of War Laufey Collector Box for February 16, 2027, priced at $149.99 and sold exclusively through PlayStation Direct in limited quantities. That date matched the game’s original launch plan. But in the delay announcement for the game’s move to May 20, 2027, Santa Monica Studio only addressed the game itself and did not say whether the Collector Box would also be postponed. Because the box does not include the game, Sony could technically still ship it on the original February date. At the same time, it would be unusual from a marketing and customer-expectation standpoint to release a collector product tied to a game three months before the game arrives, especially after criticism that the box already lacks any copy of the game. So the practical answer is that the Collector Box is in limbo until Sony updates buyers. Anyone who pre-ordered should watch for a PlayStation Direct email or a revised store listing. If Sony wants the merchandise and game launch aligned, the most likely outcome is that the box also slips to around May 20, 2027, but that has not been officially announced.

God of War Laufey will now launch on May 20, 2027, slipping from its original February 16 release date for PS5.
Santa Monica Studio said the extra three months will be used for finishing touches and to push the game to its fullest potential.
The studio announced the delay in a social-media statement that thanked fans for their enthusiasm since the game's June reveal.
Laufey is the next Sony action-series entry, following Kratos' late wife Faye through the afterlife, and will still arrive within a year of its announcement.
