Summary
Federal authorities said the Homeland Security Task Force initiative made nearly 12,000 arrests in fiscal 2026, while seizing about 161 metric tons of drugs, $482 million in criminal assets and nearly 13,000 weapons.
More than 20 federal agencies are working through a National Coordination Center to target entire criminal networks—not just leaders—with 6,585 active investigations, including over 1,000 focused on major drug kingpins and 814 on designated Foreign Terrorist Organizations.
Officials said the structure was built to end overlapping cartel probes that once left the FBI, DEA and Homeland Security Investigations pursuing the same targets separately across more than 1,800 narcotics task forces.
A Massachusetts Trinitarios case shows the model: prosecutors in June charged 26 alleged leaders, members and associates in a racketeering conspiracy tied to five murders and 19 attempted murders, part of a broader two-year investigation involving 56 charged members.
The administration says the campaign is meant to weaken groups such as Tren de Aragua and the Sinaloa Cartel by disrupting transporters, distributors and money launderers, not simply tallying arrests or drug seizures.
