Summary
Brussels said it was too early to determine whether more than 20 hoax bomb threats against European flights this week were connected, as authorities coordinated with national governments.
At least 14 flights were targeted on Thursday alone, prompting Italian, French and Bulgarian fighter escorts and three diversions, but all aircraft landed safely and no explosives were found.
Ryanair was hit at least seven times, while Finnair, Wizz Air and Aer Lingus also faced threats; routes involving Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Italy were repeatedly targeted.
Anonymous emails reached airports including Prague, and officials in Copenhagen and the Czech Republic said the threats appeared low-credibility even as full security protocols stayed in place.
The alerts follow 10 hoax threats on Tuesday and another diversion on Monday, amid wider European concern over hybrid attacks sometimes linked by authorities to Russia or Iran.
