Summary
OpenAI’s GPT-6.1 Terra is now generally available on Amazon Bedrock, giving AWS customers a new everyday-workload model with up to 1 million input tokens for text and images.
OpenAI says Terra scored 15 percentage points above GPT-5.6 Terra, matched GPT-6 Astra, and completed tasks more than 3 times faster, while input and output token prices are at least 50% below GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-5.6 Terra.
AWS also made Step Functions workflows available as AI agent tools through Bedrock AgentCore Gateway, letting agents invoke existing Standard and Express workflows and check runs without rewriting orchestration logic.
That setup keeps control with the workflow: agents choose when to call a process and pass inputs, while Step Functions executes steps in the predefined order across more than 220 AWS services.
The launches reflect AWS’s broader push to expand AI reach and lower deployment friction by exposing existing systems as tools instead of rebuilding them for agents.
