Young voters and independents swung sharply to Democrats in CNN’s national voter poll, helping drive historic congressional gains and a broad midterm rebuke of Donald Trump.
Three-quarters of voters said economic conditions are bad, and around two-thirds said Trump’s policies worsened them, with more than 60% blaming his policies for higher costs.
About 20% of 2024 Trump voters said they now disapprove of his performance, and his approval was underwater even in states he won comfortably two years ago.
Democrats also cut into the GOP’s edge with White voters, regained some Black and Latino support, and won the roughly 15% of voters who viewed both parties unfavorably.
The poll, based on about 100,000 voters interviewed from Oct. 19 to Nov. 3, suggests affordability concerns over fuel, groceries, utilities and healthcare reshaped the midterm electorate.
