HP OmniBook Ultra 16 Wins Praise at $2,799 as 4.9-Pound Weight Hurts Appeal

Q: Why might the cheaper 32GB RTX Spark model become a frustrating trap for advanced AI developers?

The cheaper 32GB RTX Spark model could become a frustrating trap for advanced AI developers because its headline appeal—low-cost access to NVIDIA’s unified-memory AI platform—does not translate into enough practical memory for serious local model work. The key issue is that on the 32GB configuration, only about 12GB is effectively usable by the GPU side for AI workloads, according to the additional reporting. That is enough for lighter creator tasks, smaller local models, and early experimentation, but it quickly becomes restrictive for coding agents, larger multimodal models, long context windows, and workflows that need room for weights, KV cache, and runtime overhead at the same time. That matters because RTX Spark’s main selling point is the ability to run larger models locally by drawing on a big unified memory pool. Higher-end 64GB and especially 128GB systems can do that much more credibly. The 128GB version is described as capable of running the full local AI suite, while the 32GB version is not. So the “trap” is economic as much as technical: developers may buy the cheaper model thinking they are entering the same RTX Spark ecosystem, then discover they cannot comfortably run the workloads that make the platform attractive in the first place. At that point, they are left either heavily compromising on model size and capability or paying again to move up to a much more expensive configuration.

$2,799 makes HP's 32GB OmniBook Ultra 16 a strong RTX Spark value, with Windows Central praising its build, 3K OLED display, keyboard, touchpad, battery life and overall performance.
4.9 pounds is the review's main drawback: the laptop is about 1 pound heavier than ASUS's comparable ProArt P16 despite delivering broadly similar RTX Spark performance.
Benchmark gaps were described as minor across RTX Spark laptops, with HP posting a fast SSD and up to 11 hours 18 minutes of light-to-medium battery life, but lacking some premium extras such as ambient light sensing and Windows haptic signal support.
The review concludes buyers should choose based on design, portability and price rather than small performance differences, with HP most compelling when discounted well below ASUS and Lenovo alternatives.
