Summary
Eight people — two adults and six children ages 5 to 15 — were found dead Friday inside a burning home in Ottawa County, and deputies said some of the victims had gunshot wounds.
Calls first came between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. about a smoke smell, but crews found no fire until they returned around 11:40 a.m. to a Riverside Trail residence showing white smoke.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze and discovered multiple bodies inside, prompting the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office to open a suspicious-death investigation.
Michigan State Police arson investigators joined the case, while the sheriff's office said there appears to be no threat to the public and the investigation remains ongoing.
