Summary
Pre-mission data collection for the Artemis II crew finished about a month ago, and Dr. Suzanne Bell has now briefed NASA’s human research program on what must be addressed before Artemis III.
Bell, who leads crew health and readiness research at Johnson Space Center, said the findings come from the first crew preparing to go beyond low-Earth orbit in 50 years and the first to fly in Orion.
That dataset is already being used to shape plans for sustained lunar operations, including how a future moon base should be built.
Bell said the work extends NASA’s well-established knowledge of life on the International Space Station into deep-space conditions needed for long-term Moon missions and, eventually, Mars.
