Summary
A fourth victim — a 14-year-old girl taken to a hospital in critical condition — later died after a fleeing vehicle plunged off a South Cicero bridge and hit a freight train box car.
Police said Chicago officers first tried to stop the vehicle around 2:16 a.m. Sunday after someone inside allegedly pointed a gun at another car, then ended a short pursuit.
Illinois State Police later spotted a matching vehicle, briefly stopped it, then pursued it again when the driver sped off; the vehicle lost control in the 6900 block of South Cicero.
The Cook County Medical Examiner identified the dead as Cristofer Lopez Montan, 19, Woodstock Yuarem Garcia-Pena, 18, Woodstock Yaritza Martinez Villeda, 17, Crystal Lake and Vanessa Morales, 14, Palatine.
Chicago police and Illinois State Police are investigating the crash, which turned an earlier three-dead report into a four-fatality case.
