A 2024 Harley Weir portrait of Charli XCX entered the National Portrait Gallery’s collection and went on display Monday in its History Makers Now space.
The gallery said the image helped define the visual identity of Brat and called Charli “one of the defining artists of our time”; the purchase was funded by a gift from the Bukhman Foundation.
The acquisition lands as Charli’s eighth album, Music, Fashion, Film, released Friday to strong reviews and was on course Monday to top the UK chart.
If sales hold, the record would give Charli a 4th UK No. 1 overall and a 2nd this year, ahead of her Reading & Leeds headline set next month.
