That matters because single-stack OLED is less bright and less premium, but also materially cheaper to make. Multiple supply-chain reports describe this as Apple’s way of bringing OLED to its higher-volume mid-tier tablet without pushing it into Pro pricing. Apple has a clear incentive to protect the Air’s role in the lineup. The iPad Air starts around $599 today and has long been the “sweet spot” between the $349 base iPad and the far more expensive Pro. If Apple pushes the Air too high, it risks shrinking the gap with the Pro while making the base iPad more attractive. That does not mean no increase at all.
