Five Apple devices are slated to gain OLED screens between 2026 and 2029: iPad mini in 2026, MacBook Pro in late 2026 or early 2027, iPad Air in 2027, and iMac and MacBook Air in 2028 or 2029.
OLED is the driver behind the shift, offering richer colors, higher contrast and true blacks than LCD panels already used in some Apple products.
The 2027 iPad Air is expected to use a lower-end single-stack OLED panel with an LTPS backplane, leaving it with lower brightness and a 60Hz refresh rate versus the iPad Pro's Tandem OLED and 120Hz ProMotion.
Apple already uses OLED in all current iPhone, Apple Watch and iPad Pro models, while the entry-level iPad and the MacBook Neo are expected to remain on LCD.
