Ohio Police Arrest Kaamil O'Berry After I-75 Hood Jump Smashes Windshield

It escalated because a routine shoplifting stop quickly turned into a foot chase, and police say the fleeing suspect tried to escape by taking control of a passing vehicle on I-75. According to Miami Township police, the incident began around 7:07 a.m. on July 27 after Kroger managers at the Austin Landing store reported that two men stole more than $700 in groceries. A store employee gave dispatchers a description of the suspects’ car, and an officer soon pulled it over. Police said the passenger, identified as Kaamil O’Berry, jumped out and ran. He crossed the I-75 on-ramp and a grassy shoulder while officers pursued him, then entered the northbound lanes of the interstate during the morning rush. Traffic had slowed because of the pursuit, and investigators say O’Berry used that moment to leap onto the hood of a woman’s SUV. Ohio Department of Transportation video shows him clinging to the moving vehicle and smashing the windshield. Authorities say he appeared to be attempting a carjacking or trying to gain control of the SUV to continue his escape. He eventually fell off the vehicle and was arrested with help from Miamisburg police. The driver was not injured. O’Berry was taken to a hospital and charged with aggravated robbery, theft and obstructing official business. The second suspect, David Sutter, was charged with complicity to theft.
