Q: Which Cardinals deadline return matters most: Frias' power, Eagen's strikeout upside, or Santana's near-MLB relief potential?

Alexander Frias’ power matters most. For St. Louis, the biggest deadline win is upside, not proximity. Frias is only 18, but the reports are louder than anyone else in this return: plus-plus raw power, elite bat speed, exit velocities up to 117 mph, a strong arm, and a realistic long-term fit in right field with some center-field ability. That is the kind of tool set that can become a franchise-level asset if the hit tool develops. Given that the Cardinals moved two rental pitchers to get him, Frias has the clearest chance to make this deadline look transformative. Daniel Eagen is probably the safest bet to help in a meaningful way. The strikeout production is real: 109 strikeouts in 87 1/3 Double-A innings, with two 10-strikeout outings and a four-pitch mix led by a mid-90s fastball and curveball. Even with a 4.95 ERA, the swing-and-miss profile gives him a credible mid-rotation path. In a system already rich in pitching, though, his value is slightly less singular than Frias’ ceiling. Sandro Santana may be the quickest help. His Double-A stretch — 0.57 ERA, 0.77 WHIP, strong strikeout rate and ground-ball results — makes him a legitimate near-MLB bullpen candidate, especially for a club managing present relief needs. But relief prospects generally carry less long-term value than a power-hitting everyday outfielder or a potential starter. If the question is immediate impact, Santana has the edge. If it is overall organizational importance, Frias stands out.
