Federal prosecutors charged 38-year-old Jeanine John Taele on Tuesday with possessing an unregistered short-barreled rifle after his arrest at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes.
Agents first spotted Taele on July 31 wearing an earpiece while filming security preparations before President Donald Trump's visit; when he returned Sunday, he falsely claimed State Department ties and acknowledged a loaded weapon in his truck.
A search recovered a loaded 9mm pistol, a 16-round magazine with hollow-point ammunition, binoculars and a "security protection agent" badge, while a later search of his Downey home found a rifle, other firearms, body armor, high-capacity magazines and notebooks with concerning statements.
Los Angeles County prosecutors also filed state charges, including possession of a short-barreled rifle or shotgun, receiving a large-capacity magazine, carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle and a robbery count tied to a November 2025 case.
Taele is being held without bail as the FBI, Secret Service, ATF and local authorities continue investigating his motives, which officials said remain unclear.
