Three iOS 27 settings let users stop automatic Subtitles that now appear by default in videos played in Photos and Safari.
Settings > Accessibility > Subtitles & Captioning contains toggles for captions triggered by language mismatch, muted playback and skip-back rewinds, allowing users to disable only the behaviors they dislike.
A faster temporary fix works per video: tap the screen, open More Controls, choose Subtitles and select Off, though captions return on the next clip.
Apple added live transcription as an accessibility feature, but the report says inaccurate speech detection and forced-on captions are making the feature intrusive for many users.
