Court heard the brothers were racing on the A483 from Aberystwyth to Manchester, tailgating, flashing headlights and overtaking recklessly before Abubakr's BMW X3 drifted sideways into the family's Toyota Yaris in November 2024.
Umar's car did not hit the Yaris, but judges said his competitive driving contributed significantly; both brothers fled, and Umar returned within 40 minutes to tell an officer the driver responsible was with him.
Ioan suffered two broken arms, a fractured rib and a perforated bowel, while Rhys' wife said the crash left a massive hole in the family and carried an element of PTSD for their son.
