Hennessey Unveils 1,032-HP Maximus 1500 Street Truck With 200-mph Target

Q: Why is a $2.5 million hypercar ditching all screens and digital tech for an old-school manual transmission?

It is doing so to sell a different kind of hypercar: one centered on driver involvement rather than maximum digital complexity. Hennessey’s new Blackbird is a deliberate reaction against a market that has moved toward hybrids, touchscreens, all-wheel-drive systems and software-heavy driving aids. Company founder John Hennessey said the car was designed around “emotion, engagement, and long-distance usability,” not just headline numbers. That is why the $2.5 million Blackbird uses a six-speed gated manual, rear-wheel drive, a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8, analog gauges and a cockpit with no screens or steering-wheel buttons. The strategy is also practical. Hennessey already has the Venom F5 as its extreme numbers car, so Blackbird is meant to complement rather than replace it. Design chief Nathan Malinick said simply chasing more power and speed would make the F5 “irrelevant.” Instead, Blackbird targets buyers who want a more tactile, mechanical experience that feels rare in modern supercars. Even without the digital-first approach, the car is not low-tech in engineering terms. It still uses a carbon tub, carbon bodywork, adaptive suspension, ABS, traction control and Michelin Cup 2 tires. Hennessey is targeting 800-850 hp, more than 9,000 rpm, 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds and a 220 mph top speed. So the manual gearbox and screen-free cabin are not cost-cutting nostalgia. They are the product: a luxury hypercar built to make the driver feel more connected to the machine.

1,032 horsepower and 947 lb-ft of torque headline Hennessey’s official reveal of the 2027 MAXIMUS 1500 Rumble Bee SRT, a pre-production street truck shown at Stellantis’ SRT Day in Detroit.
Built from Ram’s 777-hp Rumble Bee SRT, the truck gets a larger intake tube, high-capacity intercooler and Hennessey engine calibration, cutting the estimated 0-60 mph time to 3.0 seconds and the quarter-mile to 10.9 seconds.
A 200-mph top-speed target shapes the package: lowered factory air suspension, 22-inch wheels, carbon-fiber parts, a retractable tonneau cover and a removable rear wing that can come off for top-speed runs.
Hennessey also adds leather and Alcantara trim and a 3-year/36,000-mile limited powertrain warranty; production is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027, with pricing and output still undisclosed.
The reveal follows Mopar’s preview of factory-backed Rumble Bee performance parts and puts the MAXIMUS on public display at Roadkill Nights this weekend.
