A rumored $320 Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro would be a sharp jump from roughly $200 for earlier Qualcomm flagship chips, and it comes on top of rising LPDDR6 and storage costs. Reports around TSMC’s 2nm wafers at about $30,000 and a broader memory crunch support the idea that 2026 premium phones will face real cost pressure. In practice, that does not mean every flagship suddenly becomes a luxury-only product; it means the most aggressive “Ultra” and “Pro Max”-style phones are the ones most exposed to price hikes. The key brake on runaway pricing is segmentation. Qualcomm is also expected to offer a strong standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, reportedly still powerful enough that some brands may skip the Pro chip. That gives phone makers a way to keep flagship models competitive without absorbing the full Pro-tier cost. MediaTek’s rumored Dimensity 9600, at around $216, also gives brands a cheaper high-end alternative. So the likely outcome is a split market. True halo devices with the Gen 6 Pro, LPDDR6 and top camera hardware could move further into luxury pricing, especially in already expensive markets such as the UAE. But “mainstream flagships” should remain available through the standard Gen 6, older 3nm chips, or MediaTek options. Buyers may see fewer bargains at the very top, not the end of affordable flagship Android phones altogether.
