Microsoft Brings Movable Taskbar to Windows 11 26H2 as October 2026 Update Nears

Windows 11 26H2 is slated for around October 2026 as a small enablement package, letting PCs already on 24H2 or 25H2 upgrade in minutes with one reboot.
26H2 restores a movable taskbar—top, bottom, left or right—while adding Start menu size controls, a smaller taskbar layout and a search option that can disable web results entirely.
Managed Microsoft Entra PCs outside the EU will get cloud backup on by default, and Point-in-Time Restore will also switch on automatically for devices with enough drive space.
Copilot is being pushed deeper into Windows through Search and File Explorer, while Windows Security adds Administrator Protection using Windows Hello for elevated tasks.
Support resets to 24 months for Home and Pro and 36 months for Enterprise and Education, with no new hardware requirements for devices already running 24H2 or 25H2.
