The study tracked 20 healthy adults before and after a 7-day Joe Dispenza-led retreat, with no control group to separate meditation effects from lectures, healing rituals, group setting, diet, sleep, or time away from daily life.
Its most cited result found post-retreat plasma made cultured neurons grow longer branches than pre-retreat plasma, alongside reported shifts in brain connectivity, endogenous opioids, immune markers, and exosome RNA.
The correction stops short of a retraction, but it narrows how the findings should be read: exploratory biological signals in a small self-selected sample, not evidence that meditation alone delivers clinical benefits or psilocybin-like effects.
