Winfield police found six people dead Tuesday after Ronald H. Williams Sr. called at 8:50 a.m. saying he had killed his family and would kill himself.
Inside the home near 9th Avenue and Stewart Street, officers found Williams Sr., 44-year-old Kelly L. George and four children ages 3 to 9; police said they heard a gunshot before entering.
KCTV reported Williams Sr. was a registered Kansas sex offender, convicted in 1998 of attempted indecent liberties with a child tied to a 1997 case involving a 15-year-old girl.
Kansas court records also show felony charges from 1995 to 2024 in Wyandotte, Johnson and Franklin counties, including drugs, battery, assault on an officer, burglary, attempted rape and kidnapping.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Winfield police are investigating; the KBI said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
