Summary
Outage reports surged around 9 p.m. Wednesday, knocking out Comcast Xfinity TV and internet service for thousands across Central Illinois, including Champaign-Urbana, Bloomington-Normal, Danville, Decatur, Peoria and Springfield.
Comcast attributed the disruption to “an issue with our network,” and its outage map showed restoration estimates ranging from 11:25 p.m. to 4:35 a.m.
By 10:45 p.m., service appeared to have returned in parts of Champaign-Urbana and Decatur, while other cities were still without service.
The outage also hit Central Illinois Multimedia properties and The News-Gazette’s south Champaign offices, interrupting Wi-Fi and TV service, though Thursday newspaper production was not affected.
Comcast directed customers to its online outage map and Xfinity app for status updates and text alerts when service is restored.
