Summary
More than 100 delegates from Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia gathered in Havana on Aug. 12 for the First International Colloquium “Fidel: Legacy and Future,” using a solidarity forum to condemn the U.S. blockade of Cuba.
Miguel Díaz-Canel and other senior Cuban officials attended the “Anti-Imperialist Tribune: Solidarity Cannot Be Blocked,” where speakers also denounced political interference and war while calling for rights and social justice.
Delegates from Vietnam, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the United States, Europe, South Africa and China described the blockade as a form of war, citing shortages in energy, medicines and medical technology and urging its removal.
U.S.-based activists said solidarity efforts now include material aid as well as street mobilization, with groups sending medicines and supplies to Cuba despite sanctions.
The meeting closed with a collective message that international solidarity is widening and that Cuba, in the words repeated throughout the event, “is not alone.”
