Apple Urges iPhone Users to Set Up 911 SOS and Medical ID

Summary
Apple’s latest iPhone safety guide tells users to configure Medical ID, emergency contacts and Emergency SOS before a crisis, stressing the tools are far less useful if left unset.
Since 2014, iOS has let first responders view Medical ID from the lock screen; users can add allergies, medications and conditions, and share that data during a 911 call.
Emergency contacts serve two roles: they can be reached by someone who finds the phone, and they automatically receive alerts and location data when Emergency SOS is activated.
Emergency SOS can call 911 by holding the Side and Volume buttons or, optionally, pressing the Side button 5 times; iPhone 14 and newer also support satellite emergency messaging when service is unavailable.
The guide also points users to Emergency Bypass, Text to 911 in supported U.S. areas, and crash detection options as part of broader iPhone emergency preparedness.
