Six senior appointments across Iran’s army and IRGC were hailed by Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei as a move that strengthens defense capabilities and upsets US and Israeli calculations.
Rezaei said the newly named commanders would keep defending Iran’s security and sovereignty and would spare no effort to counter any aggression against the country.
Ayatollah Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei issued separate decrees last week naming a new armed forces chief of staff, IRGC chief commander and deputies, plus the IRGC Navy commander and Basij head.
The reshuffle follows wartime losses among senior commanders and points to Tehran’s effort to rebuild its chain of command with veteran hardliners amid confrontation with Washington and Israel.
