Bald Eagle Holds Bird-Nest Record With 2.9-Meter Florida Aerie

Summary
Florida produced the largest bird nest ever recorded: a bald eagle aerie measuring 2.9 meters across, 6 meters deep and weighing more than 2 tonnes.
Bald eagles build the huge structures from interwoven sticks high in tall trees or on cliffs, usually near water, then line the interior with grass, moss and feathers.
Each breeding season, the pair returns to reinforce and enlarge the same nest, allowing it to grow over years into a towering, long-used home for eggs and chicks.
Those oversized aeries protect eaglets from predators and harsh weather, and some eagle pairs reuse the same nest for decades.
